
1. The first sign of spring arrived Wednesday morning, as the Philadelphia International Flower Show held its press conference at World Cafe Live. Describing the economic benefits of the show and this year’s attractions were (from left) Regina Canfield, a senior vice president at the regional office of PNC, the show’s presenting sponsor, Meryl Levitz, president of the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corp. Mayor Michael Nutter, Jane G. Pepper, president of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and Sam Lemheney, designer of the Flower Show. This year’s presentation, “Passport to the World,” will be held February 28 to March 7 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

2. Visitors to this year’s worldly presentation of the Flower Show will experience Amazonian splendor and some colorful surprises. The 2010 Philadelphia International Flower Show to be held February 28 to March 7 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center will take visitors on a globe- trotting, exotic plant-filled adventure. The Flower Show benefits Philadelphia Green, PHS’s acclaimed program that restores neighborhood parks, creates community gardens, conducts large-scale tree plantings, revitalizes vacant land, engages thousands of citizens in community development activities, and maintains treasured public landscapes. As the nation’s largest comprehensive community greening program, Philadelphia Green serves as a model for cities across the U.S. (From left) Edward J. 3. (From left) The American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD) Ron Mulray and Adriene Presti, Flower Show Designer Sam Lemheney, Jamie Rothstein of Jamie Rothstein of Jamie Rothstein Floral Design and Robertsons Flowers’ Eric Schellack were pictured during the press conference. AIFD will create a South Africa-inspired exhibit while Jamie Rothstein will be creating an Indian wedding scene. Robertsons Flowers will be creating a Netherlands-inspired exhibit.

4. Deep into the dense ficus growth of Brazil’s Amazon jungle, visitors will encounter a plunging waterfall, indigenous plants such as heliconias and bromeliads, and a hungry caiman created by Burke Brothers Landscape Design. Officials of the Philadelphia Zoo will bring the display to life with “’Rainbows in Flight,” demonstrations that feature the skill and natural beauty of tropical birds. Danielle Quaglia of the Philadelphia Zoo brought an Electus Parrot and a Blue Macaw to the press conference at World Cafe Live.
