Community Garden Club celebrates its 75th anniversary
1. The Community Garden Club of Wayne has been serving the area since 1947. It was founded as an independent garden club for the hands-on gardener and its mission is to encourage and develop the interest and knowledge of its members in all phases of horticulture and gardening. Membership benefits include informative monthly meetings from September
through May at the Radnor Memorial Library featuring expert gardeners. They also hold an annual Arbor Day Observance at Jenkins Arboretum, decorate the library at holiday time and hold plant exchanges and field trips. The Wayne Senior Center, Wayne Train Station and the Radnor Trail are all beneficiaries of their gardening skills. Its annual Plant Sale is a popular event that helps to fund their horticultural community projects and there are fun, social events including an annual Holiday Dinner and a Spring Picnic. They participate in the Memorial Day Parade in Wayne each May. ”Hats Off” celebrating 75 years took place at Overbrook Golf Club on Thursday, May 19, 2022.
