1. The 18th Annual American Cancer Society Women’s Golf Tournament Against Breast Cancer, “Take A Swing Against Breast Cancer” will take place at Philadelphia Country Club on Monday, September 13, 2010.  It is the largest Women’s one day golf tournament in support of breast cancer research, programs, education and patient services, all delivered here in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties.  This unique and wonderful event has brought together thousands of women over the years, and has been successful in raising over $1.6 million dollars. The second annual Coaches vs. Cancer Beach Ball, held Saturday, August 7 at the Stone Harbor Golf Club, grossed more than $30,000 to support both the American Cancer Society and its AstraZeneca Hope Lodge for cancer patients and their families. Among the 180 guests were Philadelphia Division I college basketball coaches Fran Dunphy of Temple, Phil Martelli of St. Joseph’s, James “Bruiser” Flint of Drexel, and Jerome Allen of Penn. Ree Dunphy and Judy Martelli, wives of Fran and Phil, were co-chairs of the charity event. PALS FOR LIFE HOSTS “MEET THE PETS” EVENT

Pals For Life (PFL), celebrating 25 years of dedicated service of providing pet therapy visitations throughout the Delaware Valley, hosted a “Meet The Pets” event on August 26 at the home of the honorary chairpersons AneMarie and Jim Duryea to honor the patrons and sponsors of their upcoming Annual Benefit.

 The event was attended by 60 patrons/supporters including Paoli-Malvern-Berwyn Rotary Club members who came to the event to support PFL with a $545 donation in lieu of their weekly meeting. The evening featured delicious fare created by AneMarie Duryea, and gave patrons/supporters an opportunity to meet many of the therapy pets that visit area nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and schools on behalf of PFL.

 Patrons of the Annual Benefit are those who have donated generously to the event, and sponsors are those who are supporting a specific sponsorship need such as site location rental, catering, parking, postage, beverages, decorations and more.

The theme of this year’s benefit is A Silver Celebration of PFL’s 25^th Anniversary. It will be held at 6:30 PM on Friday, October 22^nd at Appleford Estate.

The Saturday Club is pleased to announce that its successful Cotillion program has been revamped for the 2010 season.  For the first time, the Club will be working with Jon D. Williams Cotillions, a nationally recognized dance and social skills education program, and will be offering Cotillion to boys and girls in third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades. 

The Saturday Club Cotillion teaches students social skills and the art of social dance. Good social skills and the ability to present oneself properly are necessities in our increasingly competitive society. They empower individuals to feel comfortable with themselves and others, to communicate effectively, and to set a leadership example in school or any social situation. Our Cotillion students develop better social skills, which promote personal growth, confidence, and character – having an influential and positive impact throughout their lives.
This year’s program will be held on six Thursdays from October through December at The Saturday Club in Wayne.  Cotillion students will learn dances including the Foxtrot, Waltz, Swing Hustle, Heel Toe Polka, Polish Polka, La Raspa, and other folk dances.  The social skills curriculum will include: Introduction to Social Skills; Greetings & Introductions; Respect & Consideration; Which Comes First? Listening or Talking?; Courtesy Challenge; Table Etiquette & Table Manners 101.

1. The Preservation Society of Newport County entertained 425 guests at a dinner dance in the  Vanderbilt “summer cottage,” Marble House, on Saturday evening, August 14, 2010. The black-tie event raised approximately $200,000 for the Preservation Society’s ongoing mission of preserving its collection of historic houses and landscapes, including seven National Historic Landmarks.  The evening celebrated the return of Alva Vanderbilt Belmont’s collection of Gothic and Renaissance art to Marble House for the first time since it was sold and dispersed in 1927. The exhibition will be on display to the public until October 31, when it will return to the Ringling Museum of Art in Florida.  Following cocktails on the terrace, dinner was served under a tent on the oceanfront lawn, overlooking the Chinese Tea House. Following dinner, guests enjoyed dancing to the music of the Bob Hardwick Orchestra. The co-chairs of the dinner dance Mrs. Guy F.C. (Mary) Van Pelt, Mrs. Mark E. 2. The Preservation Society of Newport County, Rhode Island is a non-profit organization accredited by the American Association of Museums and dedicated to preserving and interpreting the area’s historic architecture, landscapes and decorative arts. 1. The Newport Antiques Show celebrated its fourth year this summer. The weekend-long show, described as “a winner” and “glamorous” by Antiques and Fine Arts, was held August 13 through 15 at St. George’s School in Middletown, Rhode Island. The Newport Antiques Show benefits the the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County and the Newport Historical Society. Proceeds from the event help support the missions of these organizations, which in turn support the Newport community. 1. On Thursday, August 5, Philabundance Community Kitchen celebrated its 10th anniversary during a dinner held at the Independence Visitors Center in Philadelphia. Celebrating this milestone year and its mission to promote the self-sufficiency of able-bodied, low-income adults, Philabundance, the region’s largest hunger relief organization, threw a dinner party. More than 200 guests attended the event that presented guest speaker, Katie Cavuto, formerly of The Next Food Network Star, and honored Robert Sulick, Sodexo & The Sodexo Foundation, for their generous support over the years, as well as recognize outstanding alumni. 4. In nearly 500 hours of classroom and hands-on training, students learn culinary arts, from basic knife skills to food preparation to food safety. 5. Philabundance is the region’s largest hunger relief organization fighting hunger and malnutrition in the Delaware Valley. Philabundance provides a full plate of services to close to 500 member agencies in nine counties. Philabundance provides food to approximately 65,000 people per week, at an aggregate cost of less than 30 cents per meal. Christopher and Vicki Le Vine celebrated The Broadway Dreams Foundation’s return engagement to Philadelphia with a star-studded benefit fundraiser on Sunday, August 1, 2010.   Hosted by television and Broadway personalities Nicole Parker (“MadTv,” Wicked) and Paul Canaan (MTV’s “Legally Blonde,” La Cage), the benefit took place at Grace Winery’s outdoor amphitheatre nestled on the grounds of Sweetwater Farm Bed and Breakfast in historic Brandywine Valley.
