1. The Shipley School held its annual ”Secret Gardens” tour on Wednesday, May 16. Garden aficionados viewed six carefully chosen gardens in Devon, Newtown Square, Berwyn, and Malvern. Grand designs and secret delights were on the garden tour and attendees strolled leisurely through them. They enjoyed exploring a terraced informal woodland garden ringed by towering Franklinia and Golden Dawn redwood trees. They experienced the beauty of the plant compositions and breathtaking panorama of surrounding meadows and woods, and continued on their journey to view additional exquisite gardens throughout the day. Hilltop House in Berwyn was the setting for a luncheon by Bryce’s Catering. The event also included “Art from the Gardens”, an art gallery of paintings by local fine artists for sale, a boutique of vendors, and a unique selection of treasures for home and garden at the Shipley Green Thumb Shop. (From left) co-chairs Carol Fisher, Michelle Winn, Head of School, Steve Piltch, and Rebecca Bramen paused for a photo at Hilltop House.

1. Paoli Hospital Auxiliary’s mission is “to serve and support Paoli Hospital”. They accomplish this by raising funds through the Auxiliary’s events and businesses, recruiting volunteers for the hospital and by promoting Paoli Hospital within the community. They are a team of over 250 members from a variety of backgrounds and traditions, possessing a multitude of skills and talents. Through the years, proceeds from their fundraisers and businesses have supported the Cancer Center, Breast Health Center, Emergency Department and other important hospital programs. Each year, the Auxiliary directs their proceeds toward the hospital’s most critical or timely area of need. Their two major fundraisers are Mistletoe and Magic and the Golf Tournament, which this year was held on Monday, May 14, 2012, at Stonewall Golf Club in Elverson. (From left) Georgie Coffey, Anne Englund, Lynn Frey and Beverly Hattersley were pictured welcoming golfers to the event.

1. The Peter’s Place Outreach Program reaches thousands of children following the death of a family member, sibling, parent or school friend through in-school support groups and other supportive services and also by providing training for school professionals.(From left) committee members Amy Holzapfel, Jen McGowan and Chrissy Madden were pictured at the event.

1. The “Party in the Park Gala” at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts began with cocktails at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 8 p.m. In a special gesture to the region, the gala was followed by a free concert featuring the Curtis Symphony Orchestra and fireworks. Under the direction of Curtis alumni and former Mann music director, Rossen Milanov, the concert was a Mann debut for the Curtis ensemble and served as a celebratory send-off for its European tour and appearance at Germany’s famed Dresden Music Festival. The concert was the first of the 2012 summer season at the Mann. The Mann Center was founded in 1935 under the name Robin Hood Dell Concerts, as the summer venue for the concert presentations of the world famous Philadelphia Orchestra (known from 1935-1976 as The Robin Hood Dell Orchestra in the summer). The Center moved into its present outdoor facility in 1976, and subsequently was designated the Mann Music Center in honor of Frederic R. Mann, a Philadelphia businessman who supported the cause of summer musical performances in Fairmount Park. In 1998, the facility was renamed to “The Mann Center for the Performing Arts” to reflect the Center’s plans to broaden its programming and service to the overall community. (From left) Anne Umbrecht, Glenn and Jane Gitomer and Nancy and Guy Bernstein were pictured during the cocktail reception. Jane Gitomer is Fredric Mann’s granddaughter.

1. The Women’s Board Preview Party launched the 111th Annual Student Exhibition (ASE) on Thursday, May 10, 2012, at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in the Samuel M.V. Hamilton Building at 128 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA. This year’s preview party co-chairs were Robin H. Windt of Haverford, and Anne E. McCollum of Wayne. Proceeds from the preview party support student scholarships at PAFA. The preview party is a festive event that kicks off the historic Annual Student Exhibition, the culminating event in the life of every degreed or certificate student at PAFA. Over 1,000 works of art, including paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture and installations will be presented to the public. Preview party attendees enjoy the first opportunity to purchase from the wide variety of artwork on display. Pictured were (from left) Robin and Allan Windt, Heather and Matthew Stovnik, Pam and Charles Vinocur and Kathleen Byrne-Dugan and Dan Dugan.

1. The Gerhard Society of Bryn Mawr Hospital sponsored its fifth annual ”Spring Thing” event on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the Haverford home of Dr. and Mrs. J. Brien Murphy. Dr. Murphy is a trustee of the Bryn Mawr Hospital Foundation and a member of its Gerhard Society Committee. The Gerhard Society comprises over 400 Bryn Mawr Hospital supporters who, through generous annual contributions of $1,000 and above, demonstrate their commitment to the Hospital’s mission and the perpetuation of a strong hospital-community partnership. Bryn Mawr Hospital President, Andrea Gilbert, and Chief of Allergy, Dr. Albert S. Rohr, were the evening’s speakers. Dr. Rohr is System and Campus Chief of Allergy and Immunology and Vice President of the Bryn Mawr Hospital Medical Staff. Bryn Mawr Hospital, a member of Main Line Health, is a 307-bed licensed non-profit acute-care teaching hospital dedicated to helping the community stay well ahead on the path to life-long health. The Hospital has achieved Magnet™ designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the nation’s highest award for recognizing excellence in nursing care, and has been nationally recognized by HealthGrades, Press Ganey, Thomson Reuters and other healthcare ratings organizations for its high quality patient care. The Hospital offers a full range of services, including radiation therapy, orthopedic care and cardiovascular care, aided by a dedicated team of health care professionals and innovative technology such as the da Vinci®TM Surgical System’s robotic technology. Guests enjoyed cocktails, cuisine by noted caterer Peter Callahan, and making new connections. The guest speaker was Albert S. Rohr, M.D., Chief of Allergy at Bryn Mawr Hospital.
