Red Cross Announces 2010 Red Ball Restaurant Winner

More than 1,200 guests attended the 11th annual Red Ball, hosted by the American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania (SEPA) Chapter on Saturday, March 6 from 8pm to midnight at the Please Touch Museum at Memorial Hall. Among the attendees were local and national celebrities, including Tony Danza and Kevin Navayne.

Guests at the annual “red tie gala” sampled culinary delights prepared by Philadelphia’s hottest chefs and voted on their favorite restaurant. Philadelphia OIC won the
coveted Red Ball trophy.

Guests danced the night away with entertainment provided by CTO World Entertainment Productions, enjoyed the museum’s exhibits, mingled with Philadelphia’s social and business leaders, tested their luck in the raffle, and learned more about the mission of the Red Cross and the every day work of its volunteers.

A highlight of the evening was a special performance by Top 10 singer/songwriter Adam Crossley. He sang his hit “Beautiful World,” and “Hope,” a new song dedicated to the work of the Red Cross. While he performed, images of the Red Cross’s disaster relief operations at home and in Haiti scrolled on TV monitors.

All proceeds from The Red Ball directly benefit Red Cross House, the SEPA Chapter’s one-of-a-kind short-term housing facility in West Philadelphia where hundreds of local families every year begin their recovery from fires, floods, and other disasters affecting their lives. Note: We will release the total raised at The Red Ball on Monday, March 8.

The Red Ball is the Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter’s signature event for Red Cross Month. Every president since Franklin Roosevelt – in 1943 – has deemed March as National Red Cross Month. For more information, please contact Dave Schrader at 215-299-4042.

The Women’s Board Preview Party launches the 109th Annual Student Exhibition (ASE) at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) in the Samuel M.V. Hamilton Building at 128 North Broad Street, Philadelphia. Presented by Bollinger Insurance, the Preview Party is a benefit to support student scholarship funding at PAFA and will be held on Thursday, May 13, 2010, from 5 to 8:30 p.m,

The Preview Party kicks off the historic Annual Student Exhibition, now in its 109th year. This festive event offers guests the first chance to view and purchase more than 1,000 paintings, sculpture, works on paper and installations created by PAFA students on the very cusp of their professional careers. The students retain the majority of the purchase price of works sold and will be present to discuss their works of art. From 5 to 6 p.m., “Collectors” level attendees have the first full-hour to view the exhibition and make their selections. After 6 p.m., additional guests arrive at half-hour intervals.

Hosted by the Women’s Board, the Annual Student Exhibition features works by Bachelor of Fine Arts students, third- and fourth- year Certificate program students, and Master of Fine Arts students, as well as award recipients. In 2010, more than $160,000 in scholarship and travel funding will be granted to student exhibitors. Included in these awards are the prestigious Cresson, Scheidt, Ware Memorial, and Women’s Board Travel Scholarships.

Co-chairs of the Preview Party are Christine H. Berrettini of Haverford and Roz Gibbons of Wayne. Mrs. Berrettini stated, “This century long tradition is a unique opportunity to support emerging artists through the purchase of art which was created while at PAFA.” Mrs. Gibbons added, “The Preview Party gives the Women’s Board the opportunity to reach out to our supporters, who through their generous contributions, help the students advance in their professional careers.”

The co-chairs will host an elegant evening with wine, cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres. Complimentary valet parking will be provided. The Preview Party begins at 5 p.m. Tickets are available for the following entry times: Collectors at 5 p.m. for $300 per person; Patrons at 6 p.m. for $200; Cresson Fans at 6:30 p.m. for $150; and Young Friends and Academy Alumni at 7 p.m. for $75. Visa, MC, American Express, checks, and cash are accepted to purchase Preview Party tickets and artworks.

The Saturday event kicked off with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m. among the bountiful garden displays. A sumptuous selection of hors d’ouevres took inspiration from the different countries that are featured in Show exhibits including Brazil, South Africa, India, Singapore, the Netherlands and New Zealand, and a signature cocktail known as The GlobalTini. During the cocktail reception, Bollywood dancers and the musical group One, presented by World Café Live, entertained guests.
