Fall Festival of Homes committee prepares for Devon House Tour

Committee members of the Fall Festival of Homes, sponsored by the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair, gathered at the Paoli Design Center to prepare the invitations for the 2010 house tour. The annual tour will take place on October 14th between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and proceeds benefit Bryn Mawr Hospital.

This year’s tour, which is co-chaired by Eileen Devine, Buttons Corkhill, Lisa Estabrook and Beth Previti, features homes from Haverford to Paoli in a variety of architectural styles and design esthetics. Among the highlights of this year’s tour is a classic Victorian with an expansive front porch. Relax, linger and enjoy the view of the springhouse which adds charm and a sense of history to the circa 1837 property. A 19th century barn converted into a 21st century home. There are wonderful beams, mellow floors and dramatic light. A newer home designed in old English style with pitched roofs, gothic towers and gargoyle details. The home is a creation of a highly skilled stone craftsman with its open interior, vaulted great room and triple height fireplaces.

A boxed lunch will be provided at the beautiful Paoli Design Center located at 1604 E. Lancaster Ave in Paoli on the day of the tour. This beautiful facility which is open to both homeowners and to the trades, serves as an invaluable marketplace for unique and high-end home furnishings, products, services, and design inspirations. The tenant partners at the Paoli Design Center include: Lighting By Design, Audio Video Consultants, Closet & Storage Concepts, Baltic Leisure, Outerspaces, Sugarbridge Kitchen and Bath Design, and Knots and Weaves. The Paoli Design Center is proud to be affiliated with the Devon Horse Show Fall Festival of Homes. At the Paoli Design Center, they believe that Exceptional Homes deserve Extraordinary Products. They are available to help you create spaces that are unique and beautiful while effortlessly providing an outlet for self-expression.

Rounding out the tour will be a prestigious, Hampton’s style home designed by Ann Capron and crafted by M.J. Mirarchi Builders. This home will host unique vendors featuring the season’s hottest trends in jewelry, accessories, clothing, handbags, home décor and much more. Selected caterers and florists are delighted in this chance to embellish each residence with colors, shapes, flavors and festive Fall touches.

The Saturday Club is pleased to announce that its successful Cotillion program has been revamped for the 2010 season. For the first time, the Club will be working with Jon D. Williams Cotillions, a nationally recognized dance and social skills education program, and will be offering Cotillion to boys and girls in third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades.

The Saturday Club Cotillion teaches students social skills and the art of social dance. Good social skills and the ability to present oneself properly are necessities in our increasingly competitive society. They empower individuals to feel comfortable with themselves and others, to communicate effectively, and to set a leadership example in school or any social situation. Our Cotillion students develop better social skills, which promote personal growth, confidence, and character – having an influential and positive impact throughout their lives.
This year’s program will be held on six Thursdays from October through December at The Saturday Club in Wayne. Cotillion students will learn dances including the Foxtrot, Waltz, Swing Hustle, Heel Toe Polka, Polish Polka, La Raspa, and other folk dances. The social skills curriculum will include: Introduction to Social Skills; Greetings & Introductions; Respect & Consideration; Which Comes First? Listening or Talking?; Courtesy Challenge; Table Etiquette & Table Manners 101.

For more information, or to request an invitation to Cotillion, please email tsccotillion@yahoo.com or call 610-688-9746.

1. The Preservation Society of Newport County entertained 425 guests at a dinner dance in the Vanderbilt “summer cottage,” Marble House, on Saturday evening, August 14, 2010. The black-tie event raised approximately $200,000 for the Preservation Society’s ongoing mission of preserving its collection of historic houses and landscapes, including seven National Historic Landmarks. The evening celebrated the return of Alva Vanderbilt Belmont’s collection of Gothic and Renaissance art to Marble House for the first time since it was sold and dispersed in 1927. The exhibition will be on display to the public until October 31, when it will return to the Ringling Museum of Art in Florida. Following cocktails on the terrace, dinner was served under a tent on the oceanfront lawn, overlooking the Chinese Tea House. Following dinner, guests enjoyed dancing to the music of the Bob Hardwick Orchestra. The co-chairs of the dinner dance Mrs. Guy F.C. (Mary) Van Pelt, Mrs. Mark E. (AnaPaula) Watson III, Mrs. Duncan A.(Barbara) Chapman, Mrs. John R. (Sherri) Grace and Mrs. James H. (Alice) Ross greeted arriving guests to the black-tie event at Marble House.
