Philadelphia Hospitality, a nonprofit leader in creating cultural travel programs that attract high-profile cultural, professional and corporate groups to Philadelphia, presented its 16th ”Annual Vision for Philadelphia Award” to the world champion Philadelphia Phillies and their president and CEO David Montgomery.

In keeping with the work of highlighting the best of Philadelphia, each year Philadelphia Hospitality presents the prestigious Vision for Philadelphia Award. The award showcases an extraordinary individual or organization that increases worldwide recognition of Philadelphia’s vibrant cultural, educational or economic life.  Previous recipients include Mayor Michael A. Nutter, Governor Edward G. Rendell, Nicholas DeBenedictis, Senator Arlen Specter, Carole Haas Gravagno and Gerry Lenfest.

The award was presented at Philadelphia Hospitality’s Tribute Dinner on Monday, June 8, at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel. The honorary co-chairmen of the event were  Governor Edward G. Rendell and Mayor Michael A. Nutter.  Dan and Beth Fitzpatrick, Anne and Matt Hamilton and Richard and Diane Dalto Woosnam were co-chairs. Vision co-chair Dan Fitzpatrick expressed the sentiments of so many when he remarked that “The Phillies and David Montgomery were champs long before they won the World Series championship”  and Philadelphia Hospitality chair Patricia Morley, added, “This is the first time we’ve honored both a person and an institution.  Either David or The Phillies alone would be deserving of the award.  But what they’ve accomplished together makes them extraordinary.” The Phillies’ community involvement is as impressive as their record on the field.  The ALS Association, PAL, Philadelphia Futures, the Free Library of Philadelphia and the Bethesda Project, as well as educational programs including Phillies Phundamentals and Be a Phanatic About Reading are all beneficiaries of the Phillies’ time, generosity and heart.

A life-long Philadelphian, David is as committed to our region’s well-being as he is to Phillies fans.  He serves on several non-profit boards including Need in Deed, The Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, and the Philadelphia Sports Congress

Philadelphia Hospitality is dedicated to promoting Philadelphia as a world-class destination and is the only nonprofit organization of its kind in the country, showcasing the city’s cultural treasures and opening the doors of private Philadelphia to visitors.  With the support of more than 1000 members, volunteers and homeowners who open their homes, Philadelphia Hospitality offers innovative programs that feature behind-the-scenes tours, personal meetings with distinguished citizens, and special entry to art and antiques collections, beautiful homes, private clubs and exquisite gardens.

ARAMARK was the presenting sponsor of this year’s event. Loews Philadelphia Hotel, The Phillies and Vistarra Real Estate Development Services were Visionary sponsors and Citizens Bank was the champion sponsor.  Partner sponsors included Comcast Corporation, J & J Snack Foods Corporation, Marguerite and Gerry Lenfest, Pennsylvania Rea Estate Investment Trust, Philadelphia Eagles, TableArt and Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals.
